I wore this outfit this past Tuesday. The weather is still in that transitional period, so I had to layer for the cold morning and evening, even though the afternoon was quite warm.
I have a tendency to self-edit, so I have a few ideas on how the outfit could have been taken a step further. First, faded black jeans would have matched even better than blue jeans, but the blue jeans were passable, especially when I wasn’t wearing the sweater.
Second, it still feels too early for boot season, but I could have swapped the flats out for a pair of heels. I would have done that if I wasn’t planning on taking public transportation. I think I’ll invest in a shoe tree to stretch out my heels. The pattern on the flats still matched with the outfit, though. I bought them at a tag sale at my church a few years ago.
What really made the outfit work was the accessories and my hair.
I think gold is a great accent color to wear with green, especially if you’re wearing earth tones. This ring from Forever 21 had a gold square between a gunmetal circle and triangle. The geometric trend was ushered in last Fall, and based on the accessories I saw people wear this past summer and the jewelry advertised for this Fall, I don’t think this trend is going out any time soon.
I was contemplating wearing my wooden and dull gold bangles from Mandee, but I didn’t want to spend the entire day lifting my arm to keep the bracelets from falling off. So I went with the more casual rubber bracelet from JCLU Forever and a leather-and-chains wrist wrap I bought from a street vendor in Ocean Grove. Also, lipstick. Haha. I’m wearing Maybelline Baby Lips lipbalm in Pink Shock and I’m wearing Clinique lipstick in Bamboo Pink.
With a large v-neck tee like this, I prefer to wear longer necklaces. This key necklace is from The Giving Keys, which puts the money toward a good cause (check out their website for more info). You can customize what you want the key to say, up to nine characters.
This other key necklace is from Forever 21. (Gotta love Forever 21–the jewelry is so pretty yet so cheap.)
I wore gunmetal hoops from a local boutique and in my second piercing I wore a purple titanium stud from Claire’s. (I only have a second piercing in my right ear, and I had it pierced at a Claire’s in Manhattan).
I didn’t get a picture of my makeup, but on my eyes I wore colors from the Urban Decay Naked Palette.
The hairstyle is inspired by Kandee Johnson’s rocker braids tutorial here.
Not too thorough, eh?
Here’s a set I made on Polyvore inspired by this outfit:
Enjoy the weekend! Tomorrow’s the first day of Autumn!
